Sit’n’Go Tourney
5 people left Blinds are 150/300 and I am on the Button. I draw an Ace (spades) Jack (hearts) First guy is short stacked (500) and goes all-in. I don’t put him on anything decent given that he is going to be the BB next hand. My guess is Ace or King high with rag kicker but the point is, he could have anything, good or bad. More on this later. Guy to my right calls. Hmm… He has been playing very aggressively all game and I have seen him limp in with 10-7 offsuit before out of position so he could really have anything. Maybe Ace high, suited connectors, low pocket pair. I call as well, blinds fold. Flop is Q (s) T (d) 8 (s). So I have a double gut-shot straight draw with backdoor nut-flush draw. Chance of hitting my straight is roughly (8 outs x 2 +1) x2 = 34% The guy to my right goes all-in (1500) so there is 3000 in the pot. I have 1500 so this would put me all-in and give me 3-to-1 return. The question: Call or Fold and keep in mind I only have like 15 seconds to make the decision. Given the pot odds, its about even to call or slightly in my favor. Against calling is this first player. He could have a flush draw and beat me even if I do hit a straight. Second player could have the same. Chance of hitting a flush draw is less than 35% for them though since I have a spade but this is the biggest part of the equation. But I could be ahead right now with Ace high. The second player has been very aggressive, could have been bluffing or could have just had an Ace high and is out of the running for a straight. Maybe Ace-Eight of diamonds? Also, if I take this pot, I knock two people out and I am in the money. So based on the pot odds, I make the call and pray for a King or Nine. The turn is a King, the River is a 2, and everyone shows their cards. The first guy had an Ace-5, the second guy had Ace-Queen, and I take the pot. The second guy was pretty ticked that I made the call but given the pot odds and observations of his previous plays, I think I made the right call. Either way I think it was close. What would you do and why? |

My One And OnlyRoger, who was 19 years old, was buying an expensive bracelet, to surprise his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, at a very smart jeweller's shop in Hatton Garden, London. The jeweller inquired, 'Would you like your girlfriend's name engraved on it?'Roger thought for a moment, grinned, then answered, 'No, instead engrave "To my one and only love".' The jeweller smiled and said, 'Yes, sir; how very romantic of you.'Roger retorted with a glint in his eye, 'Not exactly romantic, but very practical. This way, if we break up, I can use it again.'
