how does the search engine work on ranking which site comes first?

there are a lot of factors. Its actually a field for itself called SEO (search engine optimization). That is what I do as my part time job, but poker related terms are very hard to rank for due to hard competition.

How long-term is the positioning though? I'm guessing that you're spending quite a bit to boost it to that position for a month, maybe a few months, in the hopes that it'll drive enough traffic to the site to maintain the position afterwords based on cheaper optimization techniques - word of mouth and the like.

Thats true, but I will keep optimizing the website until it is a true authority website
