What are you calling with here? This is MP's first round at the table. First have i've noticed him
AA, obviously
AK? AKs? KK? QQ? JJ? 9Ts?
I would call with AA, KK, QQ, Aks
Nima
I would call with Aces and Kings. Without more information about my opponent, I'm folding everything else (even Queens).
Nima and I were just talking about this and he made a good point: It may be better to call with A-Ks than with Queens. Queens are in trouble against Aces or Kings; they're only a slight favorite against A-K. The only hands A-K has to worry about are Aces and Kings. Even against Kings, A-K will win about 30% of the time.

But AK is only a slight favorite against 78 sooted so I would be careful about going all in unless its your style and you will be doing it enough for it to be profitable.
One example was I had 10 10 in a cash game and this guy i had played with before played AK like it was AA so i was pretty sure he had AK AQ or AJ...
Well I decided to race with him but it didn't work out. But was it the wrong play +EV... ???
I guess it depends on how you look at it

my thoughts
races aren't worth it, even if you are a 5% favorite (max) you are making 5% on opponents stack in the long run. The times when you are worse than racing (with a pair like TT) make this 0EV or -EV if the pot is heads up.
if someone has pokerstove or feels like running numbers, let's assume villain's range is TT-AA,AK (does this seem accurate? should it be more like JJ-AA, AK?) make your hand QQ and then AKs and we'll see which turns out better. I'm not real sure -maybe AKs does turn out better
Figuring out a good hand range is crucial i think.
Obviously assume a late-night low stakes internet player. Let's try to figure out a range and then move on to what hands are +EV for which hand ranges

I dont agree. If I know that I'm5% ahead of another player I would call him all in. Im ahead so I will win most of the time.

Nima

I'm talking about with TT vs a loose-aggressive player. If someone is pushing JJ+ and AJ+, i do not call with with TT, because you are never ahead by more than a few %, and the times when you are behind to his JJ+ make this -EV. With AK vs the same player, i call every time. And in that situation i would definetly rather have AK than QQ
In my situation (random player pushes) I don't ever know if i'm at a coinflip, even with QQ/AK. I don't think this is AA/KK 100% of the time, but, again, i don't know a good range. And, to me, the variance of this is not worth it because i have no fold equity. I would much rather push with what i believe is a coinflip than call like this

I agree. I just though it was an interesting observation. I'm sticking with AA and KK.

I don't have PokerStove, although I probably should get it. My guess is that QQ does better, but that's only my gut feeling. I just think it's interesting that AK "fears" less hands than QQ.
You're right though. It's better to push with AK than to call with it.
