View Full Version : Does No Limit Scare You?

This may be a silly question but I see many players who seem to stear away from No Limit games. Why is this?
I have heard several reasons such as I want to keep my money longer, I won't be afraid to play the hands that I think I will win, and etc...
While I understand that you can lose it faster than if you were to play a limit game if you are comfortable in yourself and how you play it shouldn't make a difference. You can play low no limit games as well.

If NL scares you, don't play it at any blind level. To play NL effectively you have to be a bit crazy and fearless. You want your opponents to think that you could put them all-in at any time.

its not that No Limit scares me, I really enjoy limit much more and i do think i can make better money at it than NL

NL would have to be my favorite by far. The only thing that urks me is when donks play and go all in preflop with a crap hand, and your forced to call with a good hand. Or they go all in after the flop when they hit a draw, and then you act after them. Most of the time you just have to avoid all in situations and try to avoid getting in with the worst of it, (obviously.) I absolutely HATE limit. There is almost no skill in it period. Unless your playing cash games. Limit Hold-em is almost solely on luck.

I sort of agree with tsrumler. No limit poker games are also my favourite. Limit games don't really scare me, but I do stear away from them because I don't like having set limits to be, I also feel its hard to bluff in Limit poker as well.
I also HATE limit poker games.

It doesn't scare me, I find it more exciting and value-overshoving is so much fun!
Plus limit bores the hell out of me.

I like what Godfather said about having to be a little crazy and fearless as a no limit player. For the most part, I think it's true! No limit Texas Holdem is my favorite game to play, but I have days when I'm not feeling all that fearless, and it shows in the way I play. There is an obvious difference. The question is: do my opponents pick up on it, too? Probably so. But, I do like the idea of being put all-in, or my being able to put opponents all-in at any time. It's part of the excitement for me.
I also know what tsrumler is talking about with donkeys playing crap hands and moving all-in. They can't continue to play that way for too long without eventually losing everything, but they victimize good card players in the mean time. It's frustrating.
I've just never liked limit poker, and I very seldom ever play.

It doesn't scare me. NL is my favorite game. I don't like in NL when new players (I don't like the word donkey - but sometimes they act like that) go all in with crap hands, just like tsrumler said. NL offers a lot of space for good and inovative moves.

I am not afraid to go all in!
If I feel I have the best hand... ALL IN NL

Yes sometimes....It is really dangerous and i have tried many times in no limit. The skill involved with no-limit games is tremendous, even seasoned professionals admit that they still have a lot to learn at no-limit hold'em. However, don't let this scare you; no-limit hold'em is, in my opinion, the most fun of all poker games as well. It can also be profitable, sometimes even for beginners.

I usually only get a little scared when someone goes all in before me and I am holding KK or AK suited. Nothing is worse when he flips over QQ and hits a Q on the flop.

I agree, the only time I am not scared is when I have AA.
