This happened me last sunday. (I don't remember the exact card suit though)

I'm dealt my second hand of the afternoon, so I've basicly no information about the other players.

An early and a middle player limp. I'm late position with 88. I raise to fold the blind and play 3-hand. The big-blind and both limpers call. (8 small bets).

Flop is 6-5-5 with no flush draw.

BB and early limper check, middle limper bet. I raise. BB and early limper fold, but the bettor Reraise. I assumed he had the 5, but I still called. (6 big bet)

Turn was a 4 giving me a gutshot. If I remember correctly I called the turn, and the river.

The guy had 66 for a full house... so I was drawing to only two outs

I think I played correctly preflop and on the flop, but I'm not sure if I should have fold somewhere.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

You played it correctly, depending on the game I might have even raised him on the turn :)

I would agree. I think that you played it correctly. While there was the possibility that he would have had the 5 most are going to call/raise with overcards.

Just how the outcome goes sometimes.

With 2 limpers in the pot I would simply limp behind and play for set value. The blind shouldn't fold much of anything here, since it's 99% that he is going to be getting 7.5 to 1 on his call.

One thing I teach my students is that you need to understand WHY you are raising. You can't just see 88, say 'that's a raising hand', and raise. mid pairs play good heads up or multi-way, the worst scenario for mid pairs is 3 or 4 handed. Your raise is going to make it a 4 handed pot and your opponents are going to be getting good implied odds post flop.

By raising you have doubled your investment and eliminated at least the SB. If you limp you are getting at least 4 to 1 on your money, by raising you're getting just over 3 to 1. Additionally, if you hit your set you're less likely to win that huge pot because of the disguised strength.

IMO, I think the re-raise by the person in middle position should have set off some alarms. If we assume the guy in middle position knows what he's doing, we should assume that he is playing decent cards....especially if someone has called in front of him.

I agree with godfather, when you got re-raised I think that would of set something off in my head saying fold. I understand it would be hard to fold 8-8's in that position, but givin that flop and the way that individual played that hand. I would of actually thought he had a pair of queens or kings, or some bigger pair.
