Pot Limit Omaha Poker Game

May 20th, 2007

Last week I got invited to a pot limit Omaha game. I’m not an Omaha player but I went. The game was amazing. Couple wild players, couple very tight players, and one or two good players…

I bought in for $200 and made that into $1300. But the VERY LAST HAND i was playing, I got into a huge hand ($3000) and lost.

I had KKTJ. I was UTG so I just called. There was a raise to $50 (Typical of every preflop hand), it came back to me with 5 people in. So I re-raised to $250 and two guys called me. Flop came J67 rainbow. So I went all for a little less than $1000 in and they both called me. On the turn one guy goes all in for another $900 and the other guy folded. River was no help to anyone. He flipped AAxx…

I’m not sure how bad I play the hand, but I think i didnt play it right. Feel free to give me your comments.

After Matt’s introduction, I realized I should do a short introduction too…

I’m Nima. I started my first poker website as www.blacksburgpoker.com and later moved it to pokereagles. I run this website with Matt’s help. We try to keep it a clean, useful, personal poker website.

As for myself, I am a senior Electrical Engineering major and will soon be starting my masters. I started playing poker seriously freshman year in college and have been trying to improve my game since then. I started off by playing NL tournaments and cash games. Now I rarely ever play NL cash games, however I still do play online NL tournaments. My favorite game right now is shorthanded limit. I’ve played $3/$6 up to $100/$200 limit games, but my most profitable stakes have been $10/$20 up to $30/$60.

I used to play mostly on PartyPoker until they stopped serving U.S players, then moved to FullTiltPoker, and nowadays I play at PokerStars. I will try to post some of my hands as I play with screen shots and perhaps make some quizzes out of them too. Like Matt mentioned, we spend a lot of time on the poker forum. So sign up there and join the discussions.

Hi Everyone,

My name in Matt and I’m one of the contributors to the site.  I’m a graduate student in the English department at Virginia Tech.  I’ve been playing poker seriously for about two years.  My favorite game is Limit Hold’em, mostly full-ring but I’m slowly switching over to 6-max.  I also enjoy No-Limit Hold’em tournaments.  I currently play online at Full Tilt Poker at the $2/$4 and $3/$6 levels.  I prefer playing live at limits between $4/$8 and $15/$30 (and occasionally $30/$60).  My favorite place to play is at the Bellagio in Las Vegas; the games there are so much easier than the games online.

I spend a lot of time on the forum here at pokereagles.com.  You can find most of my posts in the Limit Hold’em Forum, including quizzes taken from hands that I have played.  I don’t claim to be an expert, but I think the quizzes will help most beginning and intermediate players.  The quizzes cover everything from pre-flop play to semi-bluffing, drawing hands, and river play.  We plan to convert many of these into Interactive Quizzes for the main page.

As for the Blog, I plan to write about general poker strategy, poker news, poker books, and my own play.  Look for a post about Poker Tracker in the near future.  I’ll show how you can measure your success at stealing and defending blinds, among other things.  In the meantime, look around on the website and the forum.  There’s a lot more to come.

No poker for two weeks

I just got my new poker book and have decided I won’t play poker until I finish reading it at least twice…

As I’m sure most of you know the book is the “Winning in Tough Holdem Games”. It’s mainly a book on shorthanded games.

I will post updates on how good the books is and various tips from it.
